27 Jun, 2011 Beauty Blog

When I launched my makeup website last year my aim was provide women with honest information from a makeup artists point of view. So far so good, as I have had so much great feedback & everyone seems to be really enjoying my beauty stories. I get alot of emails asking me for product recommendations & the most common inquiry I get is- ‘Whats the best mascara’. (A close second is ‘Whats a good foundation’)

When it comes to applying your everyday makeup, mascara is the one beauty product you simply cant live without. No face is complete without lashings of black mascara to lengthen the lashes & open up the eyes. Women often have a problem finding the perfect mascara & it gets incredibly confusing when it comes to purchasing a new one due to so many options. Personally I tend to find a good one & stick with it… over the years I have moved from Covergirl, onto Lancome, through to Loreal & now I love Maybelline.

The main thing to look for in a mascara is a good brush that is easy to use & a formulation that isn’t ‘Gluggy’. My favorite that I am loving personally & professionally is Maybelline’s Pulse Perfection. This mascara is fantastic, as it manages to lengthen & separate the lashes, while adding instant depth & thickness. The wand actually vibrates, which is a great option (just press the small button on the handle & viola!) yet I prefer to use to without as I find the vibration a bit distracting on the eye! the best thing about Pulse Perfection is that you can buy it at the Warehouse for well under $30, so for that price you can afford to use it liberally.

My other current favorite is Bobbi Browns ‘Extreme Party Mascara’, which does everything a great mascara is supposed to do ie, create volume & length. Bobbis mascara comes into a higher price range, but is worth every penny. Then there is the brilliant Lancome ‘Hypnose’ mascara, which creates very black, very thick lashes that stay put all day & night.

TIP- When taking off your mascara it pays to be as gentle as possible (no matter how late it is!). Use a cotton pad & dampen it with warm water & a small amount of eye makeup remover. Place the pad on your eye, keep it there for a few seconds, then sweep in a downward motion, wiping off the mascara as you go. I find that an oily, liquid remover works more quickly than a cream formulation & causes less irritation. Two of my favorite oily removers are Lancome’s & Bobbi Brown’s.

Good luck with your lashes!

4th Oct 2011- Im sorry to say that Maybelline Pulse perfection has just been discontinued from the range. I am currently trying out some new mascaras & I will update this story once I have decided which is the best!
