What IS the best foundation??

This is another one of those burning questions I constantly get asked, as so many women have no idea where to start when it comes to finding a good foundation that suits their skin. I personally loathe a thick face of foundation & after many years of work as a  professional makeup artist, I have made it my mission to use as little as possible, while still creating a beautiful flawless complexion.

When I first started working way back in the ’80′s, it was compulsory to wear a mask of foundation, weather you needed it or not!! Models would have their features obliterated with layers of thick cakey foundation followed by ‘pressed on’ loose powder, blocking out all natural skin tone & texture. I always hated this look, but in those days liquid foundation wasnt popular & it was difficult to create a light & dewy complexion with the products that were available. Thank God for Clinique, the first company to create a beautiful liquid foundation that added coverage while still looking natural. I stocked up on every colour on a trip to the States (1987 I think!) & from that day on I finally felt that I was able to create the perfect base on which to work my magic. These days technology in the cosmetic industry is such that there is a new & inventive foundation being released every few months, however I tend to stick with (& recommend) my favorites, those I which I have listed below. I hope this helps when it comes to finding the right one for you.

When I first started using this product, (see above picture) it was just called ‘Balanced makeup’, due to the fact that it is designed to balance combination skins, but over the years the formula has improved & now its ‘super’. I have personally used this on my skin for years, as being sensitive I tend to react to highly fragranced products & the great thing about Clinique is that its fragrance free. Superbalanced glides on to the skin & feels extra creamy upon application, with a high level of moisture. You can blend it out to be as light as a tinted moisturizer, or build it up for extra cover when you need it. It feels like you have nothing on your skin, yet the results speak for themselves as the finish is flawless. I LOVE this foundation.

This is my brand new discovery, as even though I am a huge lover of Bobbi Brown, I had never tried this foundation until recently. It has a super-moisturizing formula that gives skin a soft, healthy even-toned glow, letting the natural texture show while providing a lovely light coverage. it has a natural collagen boosting, skin firming formula that helps to soften fine lines, so its perfect for normal to dry skins. I find that I can use it for light or full coverage & either way the results are brilliant.

Anyone who has been reading the beauty stories on my website will already know how highly I rate this foundation. I have used it for years in my professional kit & I find that it literally suits all skin types, weather it be dry, oily or normal. True Match has a highly buildable texture, which means you can create full coverage very easily, but the results still look natural. The colour range has recently been cut down to 7 choices (there used to be 16) & they are divided into cool, medium & warm. I have always had the most success with the ‘W’ shades as they tend to give the skin a warm glow, even if the natural tone is very pale. The best thing about True Match is that its VERY affordable which makes it more accessible to the everyday woman.
