BLUSHER Q & A

BLUSHER Q & A
  •  Why do we need blusher?  As we age our skin tends to lose its natural glow, so thats why blush becomes so important. Even with strong eye makeup or bright lips, blusher completes your makeup.
  • When should you use cream blush? Cream blush is more suited to young or oily skins rather than dry. It creates a sheer, dewy finish so its perfect to use during humid weather when the skin is naturally more hydrated.
  • What are some cream blusher tips? Cream blush works best when applied over a tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation that hasn’t been powdered. If you apply it on a dry surface it will ‘grab’ onto the skin & look blotchy. The best tools to use are your fingertips- simply dab a small amount of product onto the apple of your cheek & gently blend out for a subtle hint of colour.
  • Tell us about powder blush. Powder blush is my #1 must have beauty product. It creates instant colour & contour to the cheeks, plus you can sweep it across the brow bone to brighten the eye area. Soft browns & taupes work well for contouring while rosy pinks & peach tones give the cheeks a natural flush.
  • What is your top blush application tip? You need to invest in a high quality natural haired blusher brush & this means throwing away those nasty synthetic ones that come with your blusher. A good brush will last for twenty years- in fact I have a fabulous MAC blusher brush that I bought in the mid nineties & its still perfect! You need to select a brush with a large round head that is soft & slightly fluffy. Use it with circular movements as this will help the blusher to disperse evenly without creating a ‘stripe’ along the cheekbone.
  • How can you tell if a shade is right for you? The perfect shade should blend naturally to your skintone, enhancing the flush in your cheeks rather than adding too much fake  colour. Olive skins tend to suit warm bronze & peach tones while fair skin works best with light taupes & soft roses. Choosing a blush can involve a bit of trial & error, but once you find a good colour its amazing how it totally lifts your whole face.
  • What are your worst blusher crimes? I have to say the 1980′s racing stripe blush in brilliant shades of orange is still a look that haunts my dreams…. (or nightmares!)
  • What are some of your favorite blush colours & brands?
  • I have two MAC blushers in my kit that I just keep on renewing & thats HARMONY, which is a soft taupe & MARGIN which is a bronzy-pink with a slight shimmer. Both of these seem to suit everyone.
  • I also love Bobbi Browns APRICOT for a pop of bright coral on the apple of the cheek & SLOPES for that lovely soft rosy tone.
  • Smashbox do fabulous blushers & I am loving Blush Rush ‘BARE’ as its just a brilliant all round colour that creates good contour.
  • For cream blushers you cant beat Bobbi Browns ‘Pot Rouge’, as this product is for lips & cheeks. I love BLUSHED ROSE as its so natural.
