BEAUTY HAWAIIAN STYLE

I was holidaying in Hawaii in October, where the weather was hot & balmy with warm trade winds blowing gently every day. A Hawaiian routine involves swimming, surfing, shopping & relaxing, plus of course trying out new beauty products! Here are a few things that I have been using lately that really came in handy during my time in the tropics & with New Zealand headed towards a warm hot summer, why not add these products to your Christmas list!

I only recommend skincare that work & Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask really delivers! I spent alot of time in the water in Hawaii, so by the end of the day my skin was very dry- particularly after cleansing. Every night I applied Cliniques moisture surge mask & woke up with skin that was moist & even a little dewy. Unlike many moisture products that make your face feel oily, this mask penetrates deeply & works overnight to restore lost moisture. In fact I wouldnt even call it a mask, as its more like a rich moisturizer that soaks into the skin upon application. Like all great Clinique products there is no irritating perfume to cause sensitivity, which I regard as a big plus. RRP around $60

I love love love Pure Fiji products & their Hydrating Body lotion is rich & creamy & fragrant. My favorite smells involve coconuts & frangipani (two classic tropical scents) & Pure Fiji make the BEST coconut body lotion. It has totally saved the skin on my body from drying out & every time I use it the smell sends me right back to Hawaii!

Sunscreen is always the most important product you can take with you on holiday. In Hawaii there is a store on every corner selling loads of sunscreen, but being America many of them have an SPF 8 which is hardly enough to protect you. A sunscreen that I have used for years that I completely trust is Coppertone Ultra Guard SPF 30+. Its rich & creamy with a non greasy finish, plus its water resistant for up to 80 minutes & it really works. You can buy Coppertone in hawaii & they also have a sports version of the same product that has an even higher SPF of 50. Grab it in NZ at your local pharmacy or Briscoes for around $20.

For my face I have been using the brilliant Oasis Sun. I recently dedicated a blog to Oasis (read it here) as I really rate their homegrown NZ products. Oasis sun is the perfect product for highly sensitive skin that requires sun protection- & believe me thats a hard thing to find. I was able to apply Oasis directly to my face when it was hot & sweaty without any reaction at all. It just soaks into the skin leaving a non-whitening, non-greasy finish with an SPF of 30+. Its great under makeup too! Highly recommended by me. A 50 ml bottle, which is a handy beach bag size, is only about $17.50.

No trip Hawaii is complete without a visit to Sephorathe best makeup store in the world. I spent some time there browsing new products & of course stocking up in a few of my favorites. The best mascara is still Cliniques High Impact Extreme Volume & I grabbed the waterproof version of this beauty to use on the beach- its brilliant. I bought a new tube of Cliniques CC Cream which is a great foundation replacement when you are on holiday, plus I bought a new shade of Lipgloss from Bobbi brown in a gorgeous Buff tone. I was so tempted by the new range of makeup by Marc Jacobs, but all the colours I liked were typically sold out- I just had to buy a hand bag instead. Aloha Nx

  1. Great tips once again Nikki. Thank you very much.

  2. Great feedback from Ange.
Hi Nikki, as always your advice is spot on. The bobbi Brown concealer that you recommended are perfecto, as is the clinique mascara! I now have perfect lashes & no more smudging on the upper eye lid which is a constant problem with other brands. BB also suggested I use Extra Repair eye cream & SPF25 moisture balm. Any advice on these products? Thanks again, Ange.

  3. In response to Ange, yes I LOVE Bobbi Brown tinted balm, its a great product, very moisturizing with just a hint of colour. its hard to go wrong with any Bobbi products.
