As a makeup artist (& blogger) I get to try out all sorts of new products & I only recommend the ones that really work. Here are a few that I have been using over the last few months that have impressed me, I hope you like them too!

Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupte

This latest gloss from YSL is total luxury for the lips! The formulation is light & airy yet intensely shiny, with a non sticky texture that coats the lips with high-fidelity colour. The colours come in three separate ranges; Scandalously Gold  (four shimmering shades that contain flecks of gold) Sinfully Iridescent (two sparkling intense couture shades) & Irresistibly Pure (six sheer mirror-like colours with no sparkle). I have been sampling the ‘Scandalously Gold’ range & absolutely love ‘Rose Fusion’ which is a cross between pink & coral with flashes of gold- perfect on bronzed skin. I also love ‘Rose Orfevre’ with is a soft dusky pink with just a hint of gold, as ideal shade for summer brides. My aunty who loves bright pink as been adoring the ‘Terriblement Fuchsia’ (thats not a typo, just a classic French name for lipgloss!) which is a super intense shade of brilliant rose. You can get this gorgeous new glosses for $55 at the YSL counter from february the 17th. And did I mention they have a wand that looks like a pair of lips? Divine…. (see pic above)

Clinique Superprimer

I adore Clinique products & use their incredibly effective foundations for all my makeup work. One of their latest products that has really impressed me is the new Superprimer, which is a universal face primer, designed to make foundation last. In recent years I have grown to rely on primer, as apart from giving makeup longevity, it also really helps to literally ‘fill in the cracks’ & even out skin tone. With all the brands I’ve tried, Cliniques Primer is definitely the superior product, with a texture that glides onto the skin, melting onto the pores & leaving a satiny finish, creating the perfect canvas on which to apply your foundation. I used Superprimer last weeks on six girls for a friends wedding- they were getting married on the beach & needed the makeup to last all day. Everyone raved about how light their makeup felt (& how natural it looked) & a few days later they all told me how they still looked fresh at the end if the day. What better review could you get than that? Grab some Universal face primer for $60 from your nearest Clinique counter now.

Plantae Certified Organic Eye Contour Cream

This new eye cream from the Nelson based New Zealand skincare company Plantae is made from an Organic blend of Plant & fruit extracts combined with Essential Fatty Acid oils. I generally have a problem with Organic eye creams, as they often contain fragrant essential oils that always react on my skin, causing a burning sensation & an eventual eczema break out- but not so with Plantae. I have been using this eye cream for several months now with no allergic reaction at all, just a general improvement in the skin around my eyes. Plantae eye cream comes in an easy to use pump bottle & a has very light texture that absorbs instantly & never feels too heavy or rich. In Auckland you can find this wee gem for an RRP of $40.90 in a variety of pharmacies & health stores- see the stockists list HERE.

  1. Thanks so much Nikki for these great reviews. You help us all when it comes to making decisions at the makeup counter!

  2. Thanks for your positive feedback Shirley. I like to try products out before I recommend them as that way I can be sure that they work! Nikki x
