Last week I was treated to the most divine afternoon tea, where a select group of beauty junkies were educated about the art of Eyelash Extensions. Elisia Webb, the New Zealand lash extension guru, took us through the history of false eye lashes & who knew that the highly popular extensions we see so often these days have been around for over twenty years. Elisia has been practicing her craft for eight years & she is an expert in her field.

Obviously the art of extending lashes has come ahead in leaps & bounds over the last few decades, so much so that a well applied set  can look just as good as the real thing. Up until last week I had a problem with lash extensions, having seen so many examples of bad ‘lash-jobs’. The main gripe I had was seeing clumps of lashes sitting at odd angles across the eyelid, making the eyes look sleepy rather than bright…. well I am now as fan of falsies as Elisia showed us all just how good a well applied set of lash extensions can look. She also shared with us some interesting ‘how-to’ facts; like that you must to be lying down while getting the lashes, which are painstakingly glued to each lash one by one, plus the individual lashes themselves all come in different sizes & shapes with varying degree of curl. I am now happy to recommend her skills to anyone who is keen to have longer, thicker, curlier lashes.

If you are interested in getting lash extensions but are not sure about whats steps to take, Elisia has built a website you can visit HERE that will supply you with information about the procedure, the history & the myths of the art, along with details about the salons where you can get it done.

I would recommend that if you have a special occasion coming up (such a wedding or a party) get your lashes applied as close a possible to the date of the event, as although they will last up to three weeks, they look their best within the first week of application. It seems timely to be posting this blog on the day of the Oscars, as imagine how many movie stars will have had lash extensions applied for this glamorous occasion…. (along with numerous other beauty procedures & three hours in the makeup chair!)

If you are keen to get your own set of lashes, head to Cerise Makeup & Lash Bar in Ponsonby or Albany.

  1. Thanks for this Nikki! I recently got my lashes done by Cerise and they were amazing – in the past I have had lashes done that felt too heavy with glue and too think. Cerise were natural, light and long – but most importantly they last! I was overseas on holiday and swimming a lot and they stayed on. Best lashes ever.

  2. Thanks for the feedback Sacha! So glad to hear that you had beautiful lashes on my recommendation X
