I was recently introduced to an amazing new range of hair products from ECRU New York. With so much to choose from in the world of hair care, a new brand really needs a point of difference to make an impact & Ecru does just that, marketing itself as a hair product that combines high quality skincare & cosmetic grade ingredients with the performance of professional haircare….Definitely an original spin on the usual shampoo & conditioner. I went to the Ecru launch at the new Dharma salon in Ellerslie over three weeks ago, so I have had plenty of time to trial the Eru range on my own hair- always a good test given I have so much of it (hair that is…!)

Lets start with the Ecru Luxe Treatment shampoo for all types of hair. This lovely cleanser is sulfate & paraben-free, but it foams up beautifully & left my hair feeling really clean after I washed it out. I like a shampoo that doesnt strip my dry hair of moisture & this one is just the ticket as its loaded with Antioxidants, soy bean lipids & gardenia flower extracts that all help to retain moisture. It has rich, creamy texture (& minimal fragrance) which feels good on the scalp with no irritation- plus its colour safe too.

For me, conditioner is my most important product & because of the nature of my thick, dry hair I go through it in bucket loads! Ecru’s Protective Silk Conditioner is super nourishing, containing Sunflower oil & hydrolyzed wheat proteins that help to repair dry & damaged hair, while also helping to heal & protect the tender scalp. The minute I applied this conditioner to my wet hair (post shampoo) I new instantly that it was going to make a difference, as it felt so rich & penetrating. I always leave my conditioner on for about four minutes & after I washed it out my hair still felt slick, shiny & loaded with nutrition. it also has a wonderful beachy, floral fragrance that is refreshing without being overpowering in the shower (nothing worse than choking from too much fragrance!) Both the shampoo & conditioner retail for a reasonable $30.

There are also lots of other products within the Ecru brand that are all equally effective. if your summer stressed hair needs extra moisture, spritz in some Silk Nourishing Spray, a nutrient rich leave in conditioner that feels weightless & instantly detangles the hair. (I found this to be a great leave-in styling product for curls too) There is also the Volumizing Silk Mist which is alcohol free & loaded with wheat proteins to increase body & add a luminous shine- great to apply to damp hair pre blow wave.

But my overall favorite would have to be the gorgeous Acacia Protein Oil, a light treatment oil (containing Apricot kernel, Argan & Almond oils) that multi functions as a superb moisturizer, heat protectant & frizz eliminator- all the things I look for in a hair oil. I use it as I would a serum, applying to my dry hair  (curly or straightened) with the palms of my hands & it immediately smoothes all the frizzies, making my hair feel super soft & shiny. Its also a fantastic oil to use on wet hair before blow waving, as it makes it incredibly smooth. You can grab some Ecru at Dharma salons & Ill post a stockist list later in the week.

I was also introduced to Ecrus other brand, Little Green, an organic haircare range for babies & children, but I cant tell you about that just yet as Im currently trying it out on my two baby cousins Tilly & Tommy … review to be posted soon!

  1. I like the sound of Ecru as I prefer to use a sulphate free shampoo. Do let us know the stockists please as these products sound lovely! Thanks nikki
