MODERN VINTAGE WITH A TWIST

I love doing makeup for runway shows -in fact it is my number one favorite type of job. When I was asked to design a look for the New Market ‘Catwalk on the Street’ I really wanted to create a face that would stand out on the stage, but also translate well into every day wear. Im sure you all know by now that Im crazy about vintage style makeup as it always looks cool, feminine & timeless- plus it seems to suits everyone!

The makeup the models wore for the shows this weekend put emphasis on the lips & eyebrows. Im really loving the deep plum & raisin lip shades coming through for winter (thanks Lorde!!) so I thought I would combine dark, dramatic lips with my favorite liquid eye liner, then warm up  the face with a soft rosy blush. When all 25 models strode onto the outdoor catwalk on saturday the makeup looked bold & aspirational, perfectly complimenting the new fashion of the season.

HERES WHAT I USED. (thats gorgeous Devon from 62 & Monica from Red 11 in the main photo!)

I kept the foundation light & dewy, using my favorite base, Clinique Even Better Makeup which is great for all skin types.

Powder was kept to a minimum, just a light dusting of Osmosis mineral powder to seal the foundation.

To darken & shape the brows I used Bobbi Brown’s Dark Brow Kit .

For the eyes the first step was a wash of Bobbi Brown ‘White’ eyeshadow over the whole eye area.

I then used MAC’s ‘Gold Mode’ pigment powder across the lid to add shimmer & dimension.

Elizabeth Arden have a fabulous Liquid Eyeliner that works like a felt tip. It was drawn across the top lid, flicking out beyond the eye 60′s style. You can learn the secrets on how to apply liquid liner HERE.

Next comes coat upon coat of Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume mascara. (the one to beat ALL mascaras!)

Cheeks have a beautiful soft rosy tone achieved with Bobbi Brown’s Nude Pink powder blush, applied on the apple of the cheeks.

Then for the final & most dramatic touch, lips are lined with Osmosis lip pencil in Sangria (my current favorite liner) & filled in with Estee Lauder Plum Couture for the fairer girls & MAC Diva on the brunettes. Below are some shots of the beautiful faces I worked on… a makeup artists dream!!  From left, Danica, Natalya Derganova & Penny Pickard. Also, thanks to the students from SRA for all their hard work x
