My day to day life is like one big makeup store & sometimes it really does become a bit of a blurr! Thats why when I find products that I really enjoy using personally, I like to share them with you. Here are some stunningly gorgeous makeup bits that are currently in my beauty bag…

Nars ‘Larger than life long-wear eyeliner’ in Abbey Road has recently become my go-to turquoise pencil (& I have alot of turquoise in my personal kit!) My lovely friend Irenee put me onto this little gem, as she is a fellow lover of all things aqua. This pencil has a few new features in comparison to the usual by Nars;  Firstly its long wearing & absolutely doesnt smudge, even in the most humid conditions (tried & tested by me in Hawaii!) & secondly it is retractable & comes with a handy self sharpener hidden on the end of the pencil. The colour is deep & intense, with a very subtle shimmer. What I love about a bright pencil is that it is literally all you need to create a dramatic eyes… just a sweep of colour & lashings of mascara. I purchased my liner at Sephora but you can get Nars in Auckland at MECCA

TOM FORD really does represent the ultimate in style & taste- I adore everything he does & have had a crush on him forever, so is it any wonder that I went nuts when I recently saw his makeup range in Hawaii?! Everything in this makeup collection is perfection, with stunning packaging & fantastic, wearable colour choices. I have been after the perfect peach blush for some time & I have finally found it; Tom Ford Cheek Colour in LOVE LUST has that winning combination of soft apricot & peach with a subtle gold shimmer. Pink blush is hard to wear as we get older (hello broken capillaries) but its nice to add some colour to the cheeks with peach to create a youthful glow rather than a menopausal flush! To create perfectly sculpted cheeks apply a taupe blush along & slightly under the cheekbone to give shape (I love to use MAC Prism or Harmony) then apply a peach blush onto the apple of the cheek, using a round fluffy brush & circular movements… voila! 21 again! I bought my Tom Ford blush at Nordstrom  in Hawaii (& they sell online) but the range is owned by Estee Lauder so fingers crossed it comes to NZ  soon. My mum recently purchased the Tom Ford Black Orchid perfume (which you can see in the above image of Cara Delevingne) & like all things Tom, it is truly sublime.

I have just as many purple eye shadows in my makeup archive as I do aqua pencils- Its safe to say that they are my two favorite colour combos! Im my experience I have found that so many purple & mauve shadows look great in the palette but pack very little punch when it comes to colour pigment- they either have no impact on application or look great initially then slip off the eye & onto the cheek in no time… so I am always searching for the perfect purples & now I’ve found them. This YSL Couture Palette in SURREALISTE #5 contains the highest quality long wear shadows in five blindingly beautiful shades of purple, from the palest shimmery mauve through to the deepest rich grape. I love to use the palest mauve on its own to brighten up the eyes & believe it or not, its a great shade to cancel out red if you are looking a little tired. You can also add the brighter purple onto the outer corners of the lids & then smudge it with the deep grape under the eye- this is a great alternative to the usual charcoal smokey eyes. Purple is a wonderful contrast to green eyes & really brings out their colour, plus it looks gorgeous when combined with silver or gold. My favorite trick at the moment is to apply my NARS Abbey Road pencil then blend it out with the bright purple from this palette… its a nod to my crazy bright eye shadow that I used to wear back in the 80′s, but the application is a just a tad more subtle! You can find this YSL palette in Auckland at Smith & Caughey for about $110, or just head to your nearest Yves Saint Laurent counter.

  1. Great feedback from one of my regular readers!

Hi Nikki- This is great information, thanks you. I always buy brown eye shadow so Im excited to try something new that goes with green eyes. I bought a coloured eye liner you suggested awhile back- Ive had so many comments on it, especially when Im wearing my customary black! Thanks again, cheers, Claire

  2. I purchased Tom Ford’s Brow Sculptor and it is amazing – lets hope it does come to NZ but I think it is in Australia and there is always online shopping.

  3. I have read about this brow sculptor- what a great concept. The whole Tom Ford range is so innovative & wearable…. love love love!
