Mascara, Mascara, Mascara.

Mascara, Mascara, Mascara.

So whats the best one? Everyone asks me this question time & time again. I have come to realize that mascara is actually a very personal makeup item, as everyone likes something different depending on lash length & eye shape. For my own (big) eyes I personally like a mascara with a large brush that really piles on thickness & length, yet in my makeup kit I tend to use mascaras with a smaller brush for extra precision. At the moment Im using  Elizabeth Ardens Grand Entrance & Maybellines Lash Sensation mascaras, both of which have small curved brushes which provide excellent separation. Both of these suit all eye shapes & are great for building long thick lashes without the dreaded clumping. Another staple in my kit is the fabulous Clinique Chubby Lash  which has a bigger, fatter brush & is perfect for larger eyes & longer lashes.

When its comes to my all time personal favorite, I have been unable to look past Clinique High impact Extreme Volume mascara for a long time now, yet all of a sudden my loyalty has begun to sway… I feel like Im being unfaithful (!!!) but I have recently discovered a new love- Bobbi Browns Eye Opening Mascara. This is seriously Jumbo sized… it has a matte black tube that is twice as big as the regular BB mascara & the brush is extra large thick & fluffy. The formula itself is carbon-black & intensely rich, designed to create the ultimate eye opening effect. The big brush pushes the lashes up & out upon application, so it really does double the thickness instantly. I have also found it to be gentle on my lashes & easy to take off with an oily makeup remover; my favorite is Clinique Take the Day off as its very mild on the eyes & super effective.

All mascaras require a certain degree of building, as perfect lashes require some work… my trick is to layer the mascara slowly from the roots of the lashes, while lightly wiggling the brush from side to side. Repeat this technique on the other eye, then go back & apply another layer before it dries & starts to clump. For the bottom lashes I always keep the mascara very minimal, as too much can create a ‘tired’ looking shadow. A good idea is to keep your old mascara that is almost dry & use this lightly on the lower lashes- its all you need. Remember that all good mascaras last a maximum of three months if you use them regularly, after that they lose their punch.
