Beautiful makeup doesn’t have to take hours to apply… its all about having the right products & knowing how to use them!

Last week a mutual friend organized a ‘makeup evening’ at her home, where ten of her friends came along & shared Champagne & Pizza while watching me demonstrate how to apply makeup quickly, easily & most of all beautifully. As all the women attending had several small children & very busy lives, the emphasis was on how to look well made up without spending hours in front of the mirror. This is something that can take a little practice to perfect, as when you are rushing in the morning, precision eyeliner is not something you want to be tackling! I kept the makeup simple yet polished & the girls were thrilled with the instant results.

-Start with a clean face & apply a tinted moisturizer that contains sunscreen, this will add some colour to your skin while evening out the tone. I love Bobbi Browns Tinted Moisturizer (SPF 15) or Tinted Balm (SPF 25).

-If you require more coverage, add a touch of Loreal True Match foundation & apply this lightly across your nose & cheeks & under the eyes- these are the areas that invariably need extra help & I find that just a bare minimum of foundation can work wonders. If you are very dark under the eyes, add a dab of concealer to brighten up the eye area.

-Now for the product that really does transform the skin…. loose Mineral Powder. Its so simple to use as all you need to do is dust it all over your face using a large fluffy brush. You can apply it directly over your tinted moisturizer & its acts like a light foundation, giving the skin a gorgeous satiny finish with a minimal coverage. You can also use it over the top of a liquid foundation which is what I do for photographic work. A great loose mineral powder that is really reasonably priced (as well as being super effective) is Elizabeth Ardens Pure Finish & this comes in six different shades from very pale through to tanned.

-Now your face is prepped & this should have taken only a few of your precious ten minutes, so next up is bronzer. Grab a soft blusher brush & dust your powder bronzer across your cheekbones, beginning at your hairline working towards the centre of your cheek. Now for an expert tip- dust some bronzer across your eyelids & brow bones with a smaller brush, as this is a very quick & instant eyeshadow! I love Bobbi Brown bronzers as they are matte & natural, but lately I have been using Jane Iredales So-Bronze 3 for a lovely golden glow.

-By now we should be at the six minute mark, so its time for mascara- probably the most time consuming as it need to be layered while its is still wet to avoid clumping. My current favorite is Maybellines Pulse Perfection as it seems to add length & volume with a minimum of fuss. If you have fair eye brows I suggest tinting them, as having to darken up your brows every morning can get tiresome! I use black/brown eyelash tint from the local pharmacy on my own brows which I apply with a dry mascara wand & this lasts for around three weeks.

-Almost there… Now just add a slick of clear or coloured lip gloss & your natural makeup is complete. Once you have perfected these simple steps you might find you can get it all done in less than ten minutes, if this is the case & you have that extra time up your sleeve, why not add a flick of coloured eye pencil to zap up your makeup. I love aqua tones on blondes (I use Nars ‘Kaliste’ almost every day) & forest greens on brunettes (MACs Minted is an old favorite)

  2. Glad to hear it Steph, I just used it this morning strait over my moisturizer & it gives such a lovely light coverage. Nikki ;)
