Beauty Hawaiian style

Aloha! I wrote this story a few years ago, pre the Pandemic. My family & I just adore Hawaii as it has a special place in our hearts… I hope that one day we can return.

Back in October I was in Honolulu, where the weather was hot & balmy with warm trade winds blowing gently every day. A Hawaiian routine involves swimming, surfing, shopping & relaxing, plus of course trying out new beauty products! Here are a few things that I have been using lately that really came in handy during my time in the tropics & with New Zealand headed towards a warm hot summer, why not add these products to your Christmas list!

I only recommend skincare that work & Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask really delivers! I spent a lot of time in the water in Hawaii, so by the end of the day my skin was very dry- particularly after cleansing. Every night I applied Cliniques moisture surge mask & woke up with skin that was moist & even a little dewy. Unlike many moisture products that make your face feel oily, this mask penetrates deeply & works overnight to restore lost moisture. In fact I wouldnt even call it a mask, as its more like a rich moisturiser that soaks into the skin upon application. Like all great Clinique products there is no irritating perfume to cause sensitivity, which I regard as a big plus. RRP around $60

I love love love Pure Fiji products & their Hydrating Body lotion is rich & creamy & fragrant. My favorite smells involve coconuts & frangipani (two classic tropical scents) & Pure Fiji make the BEST coconut body lotion. It has totally saved the skin on my body from drying out & every time I use it the smell sends me right back to Hawaii!

Sunscreen is always the most important product you can take with you on holiday. In Waikiki there is a store on every corner selling sunscreen, but being America many of them have an SPF 8 which is hardly enough to protect you. A sunscreen that I have used for years that I completely trust is COOLA, this antioxidant enriched, certified organic sunscreen is just the best you can buy. My favorite product in their extensive range is the Coola Classic body spray with an SP50. Its scented with Guava & Mango which is truly divine & has a lovely light non-greasy texture. For my face I use the Coola BB Cream which is water proof with a light coverage & warm tint.

No trip Hawaii is complete without a visit to Sephorathe best makeup store in the world. I spent some time there browsing new products & of course stocking up in a few of my favorites. The best mascara is still Cliniques High Impact Extreme Volume & I grabbed the waterproof version of this beauty to use on the beach- its brilliant. I bought a new tube of Cliniques CC Cream which is a great foundation replacement when you are on holiday, plus I bought a new shade of Lipgloss from Bobbi brown in a gorgeous Buff tone. I was so tempted by the new range of makeup by Marc Jacobs, but all the colours I liked were typically sold out- I just had to buy a hand bag instead. ‘Mahalo’! Nx
