Click & Collect

Its hard to comprehend that Auckland is into its 12th week of lockdown. Thats twelve weeks of no shops, no restaurants, no socialising & for many (me included) no work. If you read my earlier blog, you would have heard me lamenting the hardship of a months worth of home detention…. & here we are almost eight weeks later! Luckily us Aucklanders have been gifted the excitement of takeaways & small social gatherings outdoors, but the most important thing for many is those ubiquitous two words “Click & Collect’ which means we can actually (sort of) go shopping for something other than food.

So one of my first online orders was from Mecca where I treated myself to a GHD Helios hairdryer. I had done my research & was after a dryer that was lighter than my usual Parlux or Whal & the best new technology available. I toyed with the idea of a Dyson, which is the Rolls Royce of hairdryers, but they are simply not powerful enough to smooth out my curly thick hair- however for those interested I know several girls who say their Dyson is life changing (& I hope that it would be for an $800 plus price tag) So my new GHD is navy blue, sleek & light, with three levels of heat & 120km of power. The difference compared to my other dryers is remarkable as it gets the job done in half the time & doesnt leave me with a numb hand after tackling my mop of hair-as its soooo light. Ok, its noisy like a jet engine (lady Dyson is very quiet ) but its performance level is remarkable. Two of my friends have bought a Helios at my recommendation & they love it too. RRP $330 from Mecca.

While browsing Mecca online I also topped up a couple of my favourite beauty products. I have always been a big fan of Laura Mercier makeup. I liken Lauras eponymous brand to Bobbi Brown, as her luxurious products are designed for mature woman who love natural makeup with a touch of glam (like me!) Now I tend to get allergic reactions to so many brands of lipstick & gloss so Im always searching for a lip product that is light & moisturising but not irritating. Lauras LIp Glace is my latest addiction & so far I have three of the ten shades available. I like a natural looking lip with a sheer wash of colour, so I have grabbed all the pinky/beige shades, but if you want a pop of colour there are some beautiful bright pinks & corals to choose from. This gloss is super hydrating & protecting on the lips, plus it lasts for ages. RRP $45 from Mecca

I have also been running low on my daily tinted moisturiser Clinique Sheertint Hydrator from the Moisture Surge range so I grabbed one of these from Farmers. This product is a major time saver as it provides moisture & protection with an SPF of 25, as well adding the the right amount of colour. I use it every morning & often combine it with a little foundation for extra coverage across the cheeks. When choosing a tinted moisturiser for the summer always go one shade warmer than your actual skin tone to match your face to your body, which is invariably browner. RRP $64 & it last for ages.

In between beauty shopping online Ive managed to treat myself to some new Bonds Knickers, a Denman Hairbrush, several colourful head scarves from Zara (great to hide regrowth) & some kitchen essentials from Briscoes. I also stocked up on COOLA suncare which I absolutely swear by! However nothing beats being able to walk into a store, touch & feel & choose what you want to purchase…. for us Aucklanders lets keep our fingers crossed that we will be doing that next week!

  • By the way, for those of you that follow my stories, thanks for your support! I was thrilled to recently find out I was included in the Top Thirty New Zealand Beauty Blogs on the FEEDSPOT website… very happy about that ;)

  • The image accompanying this story is a painting I did last year when the pandemic first hit… its entitled ‘Nikolette’ & is a self portrait of me heading off to the supermarket. Nx
